Special Meeting Recommendations Submitted to the Board
The Special Member Meeting Task Force, which was convened on August 5 to come up with a set of recommendations for how the IGDA should carry out Special Meetings, submitted its recommendations to the Board of Directors on Friday. As Executive Director Joshua Caulfield said in an email to members today, the general outline of the process we recommended is an asynchronous meeting (meaning: moderated online discussions followed by an online vote). The reason we chose this format is that it seemed like the most inclusive format for members who cannot make it to a specific place at a specific time for a physical meeting.
There’s a whole lot more to it, but the bottom line is that I feel like we put together a good set of recommendations. I hope the Board acts quickly in accepting our recommendations and commences the upcoming Special Meeting as soon as possible.

I’m impressed to see the Task Force put in place so quickly, and it sounds by your brief explanation that the recommendations are practically minded and should hopefully be executed quickly.
Regardless of whether the IGDA mail-serve was illicitly hacked, I’m glad to see that the grassroots actions to spur change in the organizations have sparked some initiative on the part of the executive to start addressing these issues.
The IGDA has been taking several PR hits internally with membership lately, the TL/EDGE issue certainly isn’t the first, and as a Chapter Coordinator I’ve been finding it challenging to support the home office when the first reaction consistently seems to be to circle the wagons. I have some hope this will really bring some positive change to the association.

Are you sure you still want to get on the national board at this point?
